About Us

LICEULICE is an independent humanitarian organization and nonprofit media outlet. Since our founding in 2010, we have been committed to the economic and social empowerment of individuals facing life challenges such as homelessness, illness, disability, poverty, and social exclusion. As support for hard-to-employ individuals pushed to the margins of society, we offer a business solution to social problems. Our support program is implemented based on the principles of social entrepreneurship in the media sphere, through the publication and socially responsible distribution of a unique, high-quality magazine. The magazine is distributed through our network of vendors — users of our support program — who earn half of the price of every sold copy. Our support is focused on the comprehensive empowerment of individuals in difficult financial situations or those excluded from society, but who are willing to work and change their lives through their own efforts. Simply put, we help them help themselves. We believe that the opportunity to earn is a crucial step toward stability and a better life, which is why we chose an active method of support instead of relying solely on humanitarian aid, which by itself does not solve the problem. If you achieve something on your own, it will encourage and empower you much more than if someone else does it for you.

OUR HISTORY

LICEULICE is a foundation initiated in 2009 by an informal coalition made up of several civil society organizations and individuals interested in actively contributing to improving the social and economic position of the most vulnerable. One year later, we began operating as an organization. The first issue of the LICEULICE magazine was published in July 2010. It was printed in 1,000 copies, of which barely 200 were sold. From the very first issue, our magazine has been a unique, independent medium dedicated to investigative and analytical journalism, with a strong driving, motivational, and educational function. Unique not only because of its distribution method but also because of its content and perspective on society and the world, Liceulice is always fresh and different — thorough, serious, well-argued, and incorruptible. We have also launched partner editorial teams in North Macedonia (LicevLice), Kosovo (Ball per ball), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Liceulice), as well as the street activism festival Vreva — the first festival to combine multiple forms of expression related to public space and activism, the initiative to help the homeless Moj komšija bez krova (My Neighbor Without a Roof), a platform for promoting socially engaged design Iz dobrih razloga (For Good Reasons), and an activist T-shirt fashion line. We are active members of the International Network of Street Papers – INSP and Nezavisna kulturna scena Srbije – NKSS (Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia).

Our magazine vendors and beneficiaries are individuals in need of economic and social empowerment and inclusion — those who face the greatest challenges in accessing the labor market, who are experiencing homelessness, living with disabilities, in isolation, at risk of poverty, or in other difficult circumstances that prevent them from finding work through conventional means. By selling the magazine, they gain an opportunity to improve their living conditions and become integrated into society and their communities.

Our support program, based on the principles of social entrepreneurship, economically empowers marginalized social groups. LICEULICE represents an alternative path toward independence — a way to earn a living and become active members of society. The distribution of Liceulice magazine is carried out exclusively through our network, which includes individual beneficiaries and partner organizations. So far, our individual vendor network has been developed in Beogradu, Novi Sad, Pančevo and Kraljevo.

  • COMMITMENT TO OUR VENDORS –The work of our foundation is guided by the needs, desires, and hopes of our vendors.

Joining our team has been a turning point in life for many of our vendors — a moment after which things started to improve. For some, the income from magazine sales helped them finally become independent. Others overcame alcoholism or drug addiction, motivated by the desire to remain part of the team. For many, the biggest motivator was the chance to step out of long-term isolation through this work. Read their stories from the margins Discover how Liceulice is making a real difference..
